A great video of Victor Borge. This is incredibly inspiring.
I love Improvising. It really gets to the core of who you are. You have nowhere to run and hide. Its freeing and limiting at the same time.

I was in Georgia for the first time and went to a house party at some persons house who i just met. Everyone started singing this song and I never heard it before in my life. They were all surprised that I never heard it. I told them I’m from New York. And they understood.

A Celebration in Union Square
I met one of the Jewish guys in San Francisco and he came over to me while I was playing in Union Square, NYC. I decided to play Hava Nagila and we got together to do the Hora in Celebration of the Holiday Sukkot.

Erik Satie- La belle excentrique, Grand Ritournelle
I truly believe that Jazz music emerged from the collision of Classical music and African American sounds from the late 1800’s. Music almost always comes out of the music that preceded it.
Listen to this piece by Erik Satie and then listen to the Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin. Hear the resemblance? Both pieces use a similar interval with the octaves in the left hand.
Do you know of any other examples like this?

If these guys were still alive today, i would give my life to see them. Brilliant musicians.
#613: oscar peterson, john coltrane, stan getz, paul chambers and jimmy cobb - hackensack (1960)
oscar peterson was a canadian, john coltrane was a longtime heroin addict, stan getz cuckolded joão gilberto, and paul chambers drank himself into a pile of spaghetti, but it’s music like this that makes me proud, genuinely, to be american.

Here’s a great little film called, The Piano, by Aiden Gibbons. It has been pretty popular on youtube.
This is a great example of telling a story without words, but with images and music. Music is much more powerful than people think. In today’s generation, i think we rely too much on words and not enough on the music to convey our emotions or ideas.
Sometimes it’s better not to have all the answers and to let the audience figure them out for themselves. it seems like we just keep getting lazier and lazier.
