I figured i would post something about this girl because she’s been getting alot of attention anyway. I saw a video about her a year ago and wanted to see what she was up to this year. This is the most recent video of Emily Bear on the Ellen Degeneres’ show.
Despite they call her a prodigy, it is my belief that anyone at any age could reach a “prodigy” level of playing. It is all a matter of how much time one spends and the determination you have to get there. Some people have perfect pitch. Those who don’t can train their ear to do so. So no matter what age you are, 6 years old or 75 years old, if you ever had the desire to play the piano, GO FOR IT!

Here’s a great little film called, The Piano, by Aiden Gibbons. It has been pretty popular on youtube.
This is a great example of telling a story without words, but with images and music. Music is much more powerful than people think. In today’s generation, i think we rely too much on words and not enough on the music to convey our emotions or ideas.
Sometimes it’s better not to have all the answers and to let the audience figure them out for themselves. it seems like we just keep getting lazier and lazier.

A timeless classic. I will always get chills when i hear this.

#5 Song of the Day: Reuben Gonzales- Siboney
This is Reuben Gonzales. My brother introduced me to his CD a few years back. He is also the pianist in the CD: Buena Vista Social Club. He is of Cuban decent, which should ultimately mean that he makes Great music. This song in particular is very passionate and has a smooth dancing feeling. If you’re not into latin music, but like classical and Jazz, you will like this!
I will post some of his other works and collaborations.
What song do you like to dance to in your own privacy?

Another Brad Mehldau cover.
Radiohead- Paranoid Android. I remember the first time i saw the video for this song by Radiohead. It really freaked me out and left me with permanent violent images in my head forever. I guess that is a way to get people to remember your song…
What do you think of Brad Mehldau’s interpretation of this?

#1 Song of the Day: Tchaikovsky- Grand pas de Deux from The Nutcracker (arrangement by Michail Pletnev).
This is a level many piano players wish they can get to. It takes at least 10 years to be able to play this with such style and emotion. Even if you don’t like Classical music, if you are patient enough to listen to the whole thing, you can feel great emotion in the music and be taken on a magical journey. That is what music is about: Telling a story. Everyone has one.
What story do you have to tell? How would you tell it?
