Song of the Day #57: Radiohead- Karma Police
Probably, one of the greatest alternative rock songs ever made! The idea behind the song is an enforcement group for people who dont follow by the laws of karma. Thom Yorke explained that the song was is about stress and alludes to the dissatisfaction of capitalism.
The piano part is relatively simple in A Dorian with the second half of the song continuing in B minor. Listening to the song, it reminds me of a march with the drum beat, trudging along dragging heavy bags. I especially love it when the drums stop and we just have the vocals, the piano, guitar, and the haunting howls of a “choir” in the background. It really emphasizes the power of the Karma Police.
Radiohead is an amazing band that has influences from The Beatles, Miles Davis, Classical music, DJ Shadow, and other techno music artists. What’s so amazing is to be able to form concrete music from all of those completely different genre’s, to create a genre of their own.
