I love Improvising. It really gets to the core of who you are. You have nowhere to run and hide. Its freeing and limiting at the same time.

I am giving this blog away! I dont really have the time to manage it, and I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to continue hearing some new and interesting piano music.

I am looking for one individual who is willing to take this tumblr and continue the tradition of posting things related to THE PIANO. I would also be helping with contributing.

Ideally, I’m looking for someone who has been playing piano for quite a while, has a wide variety of musical tastes, and may be able to teach the people who follow this blog, something about the Piano. I am not looking for someone to take this blog and use it to sell their own products, ideas, or just to spam people.

Song of the day #131: Bittersweet Symphony (covered by Brad Mehldau)

WOW. I love Brad Mehldau that much more because of this… Whats so amazing is that he makes the piano sound like a synthesizer. I like that Brad has transcended the idea of Jazz and brought it to younger generations. I got to meet and speak to Brad once at Birdland in New York CIty and the things he told me blew my mind. What an incredible man!

We NEED to remove our addiction to OIL as an energy source! We need to come together to find a solution to end the Oil Monopoly.

It makes me so sad to see our world being destroyed for mere profits. Have you see Shell’s recent ad campaigns— The ones where they state that they are working to create a cleaner, safer energy. Well unfortunately there is a HUGE oil spill off the coast of Nigeria and its quite possibly worse than the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf.

When will we learn from our past mistakes? How many more oil spills will it take before we make the proper changes in our world?

I truly believe that Jazz music emerged from the collision of Classical music and African American sounds from the late 1800’s. Music almost always comes out of the music that preceded it.

Listen to this piece by Erik Satie and then listen to the Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin. Hear the resemblance? Both pieces use a similar interval with the octaves in the left hand.

Hi my name is Dotan Negrin and I started this blog: The Piano. At this moment, we have over 3,000 followers and I havent had time to upload some great informative posts because I was too busy traveling across America for 5 months.

Now that I’m back home, I am looking for people to collaborate with. What we need to keep this fantastic blog going is people who may be interested in writing a post once a week that has to do with the piano. The goal is to create a forum and a community of piano lovers so you can share your work and the work that inspires you.
